Your Personal Support Team
Leadership at the top of any organization can be lonely. But it doesn’t have to be! You need to have people around you who will support you.
Concussion Management
Have you ever had a concussion?
Missing the Trees for the Forest
I had a number of new experiences over the weekend of August 7, 2022 which I hope to never have again. Some tell me it was a rite of passage. Others tell me they feel my pain. But there is something for leaders to think about in all of this.
Challenging the Typical
As I continued to recover from my MTB crash, I kept having new experiences which provided insights into what is not typical for me, but might be typical for others. I found a leadership lesson here as well which I will share.
Empathy Up Close
As I lived through a number of new experiences where my mobility was hampered, the pain I felt, dealing with different health practitioners, an ambulance ride and an overnight stay in an emergency department, it made me think about what pure empathy is.
The Beauty of Kaizen
During my concussion recovery, different health providers recommended various supplements. I blindly started a couple of new ones all at once….forgetting how sensitive my body is to foreign entries (Maybe I can blame my concussion for that!). I also reduced the amount of one and stopped taking another.
My Crazy, Caring Brain
The complexity and care of my brain continues to amaze and astound me.
The Quickest Way To Lose Trust
The quickest way to have others lose trust in you is to break your promises and not follow through on commitments.
How Transparent Are You?
While an organization may not have enough trust to be fully transparent, you can gain trust by being more transparent about the things that matter.
Who's the most important person in the room?
By moving from me being the most important person in the room to making him the most important person in the room, I was able to leave my ego at the door.
I Don't Know Everything
I want to share a technique that I learned along the way which works like a charm to get through tough situations.
Listening
Have you ever felt like you were being heard? Do you remember how good that made you feel?
Or have you ever experienced a situation where you were sure the other person wasn’t listening to you? How did that make you feel? Devalued? Not worthy? Unimportant?
Be The Best Leader You Can Be - Part 3
As leaders, it is important for us to know how we influence our teams and for us to take responsibility for that influence. Responsibility is much easier to handle when we know more about what brings out our best and what doesn’t bring out our best.
Be The Best Leader You Can Be - Part 2
Having spent time focusing on what brings out our best, what about when we are not at our best?
Be the Best Leader You Can Be
Be the best leader you can be. Isn’t that what you want to be?
Boxes
I've been thinking a lot about boxes lately and there are a couple of insights I'd like to share with you which meant a lot to me.
Marshmallow
Have you ever watched the Disney movie Frozen? Did you know that the scary ice monster at the top of the snowy mountain was named Marshmallow? I want to tell you today how I used Marshmallow as a tool for improving organizational culture.
Engagement Rings
We have already discussed disengagement and engagement, and I would like to suggest there is a continuum between engagement and disengagement in which we find mis-engagement.
Colour Blind
I used to pride myself on being colour blind.
Something Worth Fighting For
People don’t want to join a company; they want to join a crusade.
